Graspo del Moro, Oliosi (SGBR 2)

Ride Details

Route Overview

A variant of the Graspo del Moro loop. A short, flat and relaxed ride through the gravel tracks, vineyard paths and open countryside south of Castelnuovo del Garda — with barely any climbing and almost no traffic throughout.

At 22 km with just 90 m of elevation gain, this is the ideal route for a first visit to the area, a relaxed morning ride or anyone who wants to experience the South Garda landscape without a big physical commitment. Trekking bikes are perfectly at home here alongside gravel and e-bikes.

The ride

The route leaves Castelnuovo del Garda heading west, quickly finding its way onto gravel tracks through open fields. The terrain is flat, the surface is good, and the only sounds are birds and the occasional tractor somewhere in the distance.

From there the route continues south through long, straight agricultural roads crossing the plain between Castelnuovo and the southern hills. This is a section that captures something essential about the South Garda landscape: wide, unhurried, genuinely rural. No traffic, no rush, just open countryside rolling by.

The route passes through Oliosi, a quiet hamlet that carries a significant piece of local history. It was here, during the First Italian War of Independence in 1848, that one of the key battles of the Risorgimento was fought — a moment still remembered in the flags and monuments dotted around the village. Easy to ride through without noticing, but worth slowing down for.

From Oliosi, the route turns back north toward Castelnuovo, weaving through a final stretch of vineyards and countryside lanes before returning to the starting point at the Oregolo sports centre.
