Graspo del Moro, full route (SGBR 1)

Ride Details

Route Overview

The founding route of South Garda Bike Region and the one that started it all. A full loop through the vineyards, morainic hills and countryside of Castelnuovo del Garda — named after the historic local wine variety still grown in the fields you ride through. Varied terrain, beautiful scenery and almost no traffic from start to finish.

At 37 km with only 177 m of elevation gain, this is an accessible route for a wide range of riders. The climbs are gentle, the gravel sections are smooth and the views are consistently good. A perfect half-day ride or a relaxed full morning out.

The ride

The route starts at the Oregolo sports centre in Castelnuovo del Garda — easy to park, with a bar on site if you need a coffee before setting off. Within minutes the main roads are behind you and you’re riding quiet countryside lanes between apple orchards and vineyards. The first gravel section arrives soon after: open fields, soft ground underfoot, and the kind of silence that makes you glad you left the car.

Along the way you’ll pass the Scuderie del Garda, a horse farm set in the middle of the countryside, before a longer stretch of tarmac carries you toward Sandrà — one of Castelnuovo’s small hamlets. Here a few cobbled streets connect you into the long gravel stretches that wind through the vineyards beyond.

After several kilometres of riding among the vines, the route reaches the Gardesana road, which you cross right beside Gardaland. A narrow lane runs alongside the entire theme park — an oddly peaceful contrast to what’s happening on the other side of the fence — and delivers you directly to the lakeshore.

From there you follow the water to Lido Campanello, a natural stopping point with cafés and a good stretch of lake to look at. Then the road turns inland, past a wide and unhurried golf course, before heading south through the long straight agricultural roads of open countryside that lead to Oliosi, another of Castelnuovo’s hamlets.

Almost back now. A left turn at the Oliosi cemetery takes you through a last stretch of vineyards and countryside lanes before the route loops back into Castelnuovo and returns you to where you started.
